John Beargrease (1858-1910) was an Ojibwe who ran the US mail between Two Harbors and Grand Marias, in the summer he used a row boat and in the winter a 4 dog sled. There were no roads during his service. The Beargrease Dog Sled Race is named after him. He died in Beaver Bay Aug.10, 1910. Zenith Web Site
