 First municipal Christmas Tree was lighted with 3,500 lights on Dec. 25, 1914. Attended by thousands in -20 below weather, in front of the St. Louis County Courthouse ,warmed by many bond fires.  The people sang carols in their native tongues which included  Swedish, Norwegian, German, Slavic and English.
