Julius Barnes, appeared on the cover of Time Mag. in May 1930. This Duluthian was the President of the US Chamber of Commerce at that time which the article was about. He and his business partner Ames paid for the majority of the downtown YMCA, YWCA and Barns - Ames  Buildings in Duluth. Helped pay for the transfer bridge conversion, involved in the shipyards,  He started up the Duluth Boat Club which was a national contender, the National Champions still receive the Barnes Trophy.  His spouse died in 1957 and Barnes sold their home and moved into the Holland Hotel, which was in the Duluth bowery area, where he died in 1959.  Zenith Web Site
