Sidney Buchman Day 1950. Bachman, a native of Duluth, became a Hollywood Screen writer of over 40 plays plus an executive for Colombia Pictures. His most famous screen play was 'Mr. Smith Goes To Washington' starring Jimmy Stewart in 1939. He predicted in his 1950 speech to the Duluth Chamber that 'someday we will be able to watch movies in our living room by just calling the telephone operator and having the movie switched to a special channel on our T.V.' s.
