John Walsman  was hung in 1885 on the grounds of the St. Louis County Court house. 75 people were given tickets to have a close view of the hanging and the large crowd of other on lookers were kept 100 yards away. The body was left hanging for 20 minutes.  The rope used was cut into 1.5 inch lengths and passed out as souvenirs. Zenith City Press
