Duluth first vol. fire department was organized March of 1870 and received it's first eqipment from a donation by hardware salesman A.A. Clifford of 3 dozen buckets in November of that year.  Hose Co. # 1 was disbanded in June of 1889 when the city went to paid firefighters. Image from UMD archives Martin Library, Zenith Web Site.
